After I started planting fruit trees a few years ago, I have become very interested in the wide varieties of bees in our home garden orchard. Recently I was motivated enough to start digging around for information so I can better support our local working bees. First I have to learn what bees I have been looking at.

I found a recent review article, though not directly related to home orchards, quite interesting - it is especially relevant to my location (south Willamette Valley).

This review article from OSU was about bumble bees and agricultural crops in the Willamette Valley. In it there are two tables listing the species of bumble bees and other endemic bees trapped during their field work.

But I need pictures. Then I found bugguide.net [http://bugguide.net/node/view/15740], which contains many beautiful pictures of each bug species in their database.

By entering the scientific names of the bees in the tables in the search tool in bugguide.net, I found great pictures of the bees.
