This year I bagged apples on several of my trees, I have Macs, Russet and Delicious. I need to remove the bags before harvest so the fruit ripens. I removed one or two and the apples look great but I've never had edible apples from any of these trees. How do I determine when to remove the bags? I'm a bit confused as to the best timing for each type of apple.
thanks,
Hello Bruce,
did you use BROWN or WHITE paper bags?
I read Ted Swensen's article about bagging fruits again, and he suggests to remove the BROWN bags two to three weeks before harvest for your fruit to color. It seems like if you use WHITE bags the fruit colors inside...
Please let us know about your harvest success.

I used Brown bags, I too read the article but could only find the brown ones. Perhaps next year with a bit more lead time I can get white.
The browns worked well as did the simple cut out a "V" and staple them on as per the article. The only ones I lost were not attached to branches but rather to the apple stem itself. I asked several people their opinion of the Macs maturity and decided to remove all my bags. In several cases the apples had developed some rot at the top, perhaps my bagging technique isn't yet that good....
I'll report back on how long they took to ripen.
