For this Friday Sept. 14, 10 am
If you are available to pick pears for a couple of hours at the incredible germplasm repository in Corvallis, contact Joanie at info@homeorchardsociety.org let her know and get the details.
Still looking for a handful more volunteers.
It's fun and a rewarding experience.

Hi there,
I was planning a trip to Corvallis to tour the pears and do some tastings but I just heard it is getting kind of late for the pears there and many are on the ground now. I just learned about the All About Fruit show and it looks amazing! I'm thinking of prioritizing coming to the Fruit Show instead now... does it look like a good show for pears this year?
Thanks so much in either case, looks like an amazing event!

persianmd2orchard, and any others interested.
Should be a decent showing of pears at the event Oct. 20-21, Clackamas Co. Fairgrounds in Canby.
The early pears at the repository are over, but out of 1100 varieties some are not, even yet, ready for the picking.
Wednesday the 17th, volunteers will be returning to find what might be tree ripe and palatable for the show on the 20th and 21st.
We'll be looking at the pears; for sure quince; hardy kiwi, if there are any to be found; medlar; possibly there will still be pawpaw. There is usually something interesting to look at, that has caught the fancy of repository staff, other than just the collecting we do.
You would be welcome to join us. Come on down! Get insight into the place.
As above, Joanie would be glad to give you details.

Thanks so much for the info. Looks like I won't be able to make it this year to the show :(, but will definitely try again next year.
Too bad! I'm sorry you won't be able to make it this year. I know you were interested in the pears- looks to be near 400 varieties at setup. I didn't count the Asian 'kaki'. Apple numbers are down a little this year, 216 by my count.
Maybe next year then.
