I have "advertised" for our Harvest Fest before.....and truthfully, I don't know that anyone yet has come all the way from Portland for just this fest....but let me do so again.

Dr. Rob Norton will be a pie judge. Entries need to be there by 10 (or 10:30 a.m) Judging at noon.
Bev Gerdeman, an expert on spotted wing drosophilia will be our featured speaker and talking about backyard pests in general at 10 a.m.
Orchard tour at 1 p.m. I will expect to be demonstrating an apple bagging device I purchased from a private individual in China. They are plastic bags that I can put on by machine on the tree. Theoretically it should be faster but I never mastered mine. I am still using foot sox, but I have not been putting on the kaolin clay right....or something.....because in a high codling moth population, I am getting more and more frustrated with the footies and getting more "sold" on the idea of going back to #2 bleached paper bags......or the clear Ziploc bag (good if you have a relatively dry summer)....anyway, maybe a separate thread for that subject.
Maybe I should point out again that the Piper Orchard is in an area north of Seattle by about 10 miles.......so I really only expect that Puget Sound area people are likely to come. The orchard itself is 120 years old....still doesn't compare in age to your Vancouver Washington historic gem.
But everyone is welcome to touch base with those of us here in Seattle that wants to come to the Fest. Lori Brakken has been working on a computer generated apple Identification system.....maybe the Seattle computer answers will never replace Shaun (?) and the Portland folks who have years of experience identifying apples, but we are trying something up here anyway. Lori will have a table at the fest.
Cider pressing, mason bee demo, music, etc., etc. Come if you want
Thanks Don,
My wife's family is from the Seattle area, so I would like to come some year. I don't know if our visit will coincide with the date, but it would be fun if it did. There are probably a lot of people from Portland if they could convince the other partner/spouse for some such reason.
Footies soaked in kaolin clay are the most effective for me. ziplocs I still use, but I got a lot of sunburn on the apples with it. The paper bags just blow off in the wind for me, so it's not worth it.
