My parents have an old apple tree that is probably 80+ years old, in an old orchard up Smith River in Reedsport, Oregon (Douglas County). I have branch and apple samples and can get more. Is there somebody who knows how to help identify this apple for me (for my 93 year old father who still lives there)? If so, is there a place I could send samples for analysis, etc.
I grew up with these apples and my Dad would really like to know what they are. I've also got photos of the leaves, branches, and apples. This is a 'winter' apple I've always been told, and is just now getting ripe (early November, 2021) and most of the apples are still on the tree. It is very juicy, firm and tart/sweet.
Thank you! Karen Carnathan

I’d recommend contacting Joanie Cooper at the Temperate Orchard Conservancy for information on how they like to receive samples for identification. She and Shawn Shepard at TOC are competent and pretty well known in this neck of the woods and the I.D. Community in general…located in Molalla. Email is AlmatyFarmTOC@gmail.com
There are actively others who also were part of the Home Orchard Society i.d. Team, I just don’t know them personally or how to contact them.
