jekahrs said ....... I saw a couple of medlars at the fruit exchange (Dzevera and Norashenik) that were a lot larger than the typical medlars being sold by OGW. I doubt anyone but OSU has these. Any thoughts? I did send a note to OGW telling them about these cultivars so hopefully that will change.
Sweepbjames said replying to jekahrs..... We are going to the US Germplasm Repository at Corvallis tomorrow Tuesday 2/18, to collect pear and other scions for the Fruit Prop fair on 3/15.
We will also be gathering medlar//...
"... medlar ... yada yada yada..."
More on that note; I found this article with a search for the named varieties.
Reading of particular note the cluster analysis section on page 50 and the Fig.1 on page 55. (Don't worry, extract starts with page 47)
So while we might not have the Dzevera Garden, or Norashenik by name, at the Propagation Fair 3/15, you'll most likely find Monstreuse d'Evreinoff, Nottingham; of similar stature and genes as per the article.
I have Nottingham. I like it. It is an average sized medlar. It is not "monstreuse", neither as a noun nor as an adjective.
