I am looking for wild populations of Malus fusca, Pacific crabapple in coastal regions of northern California, Oregon and Washington. I will be collecting fruits/seeds to assess the genetic diversity of the species as a part of my dissertation research at the University of Arizona. I am planning a collection trip for the first two weeks of October, and would greatly appreciate information anyone has on where to find trees in the wild. Thank You!

I don't know about the apples, but you are going to see some really beautiful scenery.

North of Florence, the Oregon coastline gets incredibly even more beautiful.

You might possibly get lucky with the weather in early October. Bring a rain coat, just in case.

Don't carry an umbrella unless you want to be marked as a foreigner.
