Monkey Puzzle trees (Araucaria araucana) are dioecious. Dioecious plants have male and female organs in different plants. I am looking for a female tree that is producing cones in the PDX area or as far south a Corvallis. If you know any please contact me at info@fruit-tree.com

Thanks,

You won't get fat on monkey puzzle fruit. Go with apples my man! <img decoding=" title="Wink" />

Have you tried Burnt Ridge Nursery in Onalaska, Washington? They sell monkey puzzle seedlings. Perhaps they can help.

There is a female tree near Alma or Ida and Willamette in North Portland. That's just west of the railroad cut. The tree is north of Willamette Bv. I've seen cones on it over the years, been wanting to stop and get some, haven't got around to it yet. Shaun

Shaun's doing better than me, I went looking for the local tree here in Corvallis and couldn't find it! Thought I knew about where it lived, but a few minutes of driving around in that area didn't find it or signs that it had been cut down. And one day when I'm not even thinking about it; it'll appear again!

I will check out these trees. There are occasions when the tree is monoecious but it is rare. It would be nice since one would not need to plant two trees to get cones.

Thanks again,

I live in the Boring area and have a monkey puzzle tree that is huge and must be female; since it produces loads of cones every year. If you still have not located want you want; let me know at greenthumb@poetworld.net.
