Hi! I've got a small orchard here in the mountains of VA & am looking at hitting max capacity pretty soon (all the cleared / fenced land I have). I've got room for maybe another 20 or so trees. What are your favorite apples, peaches, pears, plums, nectarines, &/or cherries - especially those that may grow well on the East coast (Zone 6b)? I'm mainly interested in consumption quality whether it's eating fresh, canning, baking desserts, etc. Thanks!

I'm not sure of the ripening dates but I think you could look that up.

My favorite apples that I can grow are:
Golden Russet
Freyberg
Rubinette
Goldrush
I also like my neighbor's tree which I'm pretty sure is:
King of Tompkins County: It's a great all around apple makes good single variety fresh cider, baking (I hear), fresh eating, productive
I don't have many pears in production, but:
Thornley is outstanding, and a winner at the Home Orchard Society taste tests
Seckel, Taylor's Gold, and Golden Russet Bosc are ones that haven't fruited yet, but I know are really good pears.
