I planted an apricot tree about four years ago and it looks healthy and is growing well, but it has not produced any fruit yet. Do apricots need fertilization or any other special considerations? I am located in zone 7 I believe, and have many other fruit trees such as apple, fig, cherry, nectarine, plum, they all produce fruit. We are having an extremely wet spring, I am getting a late start planting, but I will be planting another apricot as well as a fuyu persimmon.
Apricots are self-fertile, no need for a partner tree. The do however bloom way too early and their blooms do not survive frosty nights. I don't know where you live but apricots are a real problem in Oregon's north Willamette Valley. I moved onto a property with an awesome looking apricot tree which produced 0-3 apricots each year. I got rid of it cuz I had to get a well-drilling rig onto the property and that tree was in the way. I think once every 10-15 years it would have produced a big crop during exceptionally rare, excellet weather conditions in February and March. At least the lady I bought the property from said it would sometimes bear a good crop. Anyway, I'd hold off on planting another until you find out that apricots can be productive where you live. I'd love to have a productive apricot tree but their too difficult in our weather.
