I have had a withches broom form on Early Burlat sweet cherry. I'm not sure but I think and read that this thing can happen on cherry west of the mountains which mostly never produce fruit. It might be more common out there than I think but regardless, I'm offering to donate scions for anybody wishing to find out if this would make a good bush tree grafted to other rootstocks. If you want to find me this weekend at the propagation fair in Canby have Jafar or John S find me. I can have some there if I find any in my scion storage. "see spur cherry image"
I do know I have some Carmine Jewel pie cherry which is a bush and attributed to the hereditary of the species. The CJ is not productive here unless maybe grown the way apricots under shelter are. Mine are productive when I hand pollinate them as long as they stay under my large eves and on the south side.
The Spur sweet cherry would be free to one or two people this year and the Carmine Jewel I can't give away with out some restraints because I signed a non-propagation agreement when I bought my trees. It is only if I know you that I can pass one along on it's own root system. I can vouch that the fruits are very rich and sweet in areas with good tree nutrition and high summer heat. One I have it test grafted to GM-9 dwarf cherry rootstock, going strong, but is non productive as it is not sheltered (applies to Carmine Jewel only).
