Has anybody seen Coffeecake variety persimmon fruit available for sale in the Portland area, or any other PVNA fruit for that matter?
I've heard there have been some for sale in the Seattle area at 99 Ranch and H-Mart, but I don't think those stores have had them in the Portland (Beaveton/Tigard) area.
Let me know if you see them.
I haven't been out to the Arboretum for some time now so I don't know what's going on with the progress of the persimmons there. Am I to understand that you are looking for ripe fruit now, at this time? That would have me thinking that Coffeecake is a really early successional variety. Might that be so?
PVNA?
Dang, I missed it. I definitely would have bought some if I'd seen them at Chuck's. I did buy a few Fuyu to tide me over. I'm waiting for them to get a bit more orange before eating.
The only persimmons I have this year are a handful of American. Prairie Star, a trademarked Claypool variety. I have a few of those early picked as well, I think they are mature enough to fully ripen in a few days.
@ jafar. where do you live in portland? There's this tiny little russian produce market called abc produce. it's on the corner of 92nd & se powell, across the street from jiffylube. they sometimes carry coffeecake persimmon as well as chocolate persimmon. fruit/produce isn't as 'pretty' in appearance as large supermarkets but what they have is really tasty!
Thank you alton, and welcome to the forum. I'll have to check that place out, I may have been there before, I like checking out what import markets carry and have seen fruits that aren't easy to find before as well as fruit products.
I'm in the Camas, WA area, East of Vancouver.
While on other errands, I went to the ABC Produce Market at 92nd & SE Powell today.
There were two varieties of persimmons (one flatish and one filbert-shaped), and the
flatish ones were for sale by the case, but were in re-purposed plum boxes. There were
no varietal labels. There was a good variety of other produce, but nothing too exotic
(I was unfamiliar with "white pomegranate"). Some club-varietal apples. Heavily sedimented
quince juice in bottles. There is a picture of feijoas in their online Yelp slideshow.
