I am looking for some local advice about two flowering fruit trees in the Portland area. I am a photographer in Minnesota working on a documentary project about historic trees in America. I am planning a trip this spring to Oregon and Washington in order to photograph some of the region’s historic trees. I am arranging my trip so that it coincides with the blooming of two particular trees: the seedling “Old Apple Tree†of Vancouver, WA and the Owen Cherry Tree (Prunus avium, cultivar 'Black Tartarian' or ‘Black Republican’ or 'Republican') of Eugene, OR. Online research suggests that the trees bloom in late March or early April. Before I buy plane tickets I would love to have a second opinion. I realize that every year is different. Could anyone give me their best guess for when these trees or similar cultivars in the region might bloom this spring?
Thank you,
