Here's an interesting article by David Karp on the Warren Pear. It's always been one of my favorites...now the word is out.
Will bring scionwood to the exhange next year if anyone's interested.

Great article and a great pear. Unmentioned is that Warren, in addition to being delicious, is one of the few pears that are recommended for grafting directly onto quince for dwarfing purposes. Most pears have long term incompatibility issues with quince.

I tried to graft it last year onto my douglas hawthorn, but the slugs got it. I'm going to try again this year.

I've had Warren for years, topworked on another tree. Quality is excellent, but production has been slow (10+ years to bear) and erratic even with many other pears for pollination nearby. Also, the fruit drops fast when it starts ripening.
