I get occasional email from the HOS Arboretum regarding upcoming events, last one from 9/4. Recognized the forum might be a good place for folks local to get information about volunteer opportunities. The organization thrives on volunteers. A couple of three years ago was a smaller showing of fruit samples at the all about fruit show. The reason, when asked, was lack of volunteer pickers at picking events. Apples for the event from the repository in Corvallis will be picked tomorrow 10 AM till whenever, if anyone can show up. I'm sorry, I didn't think to post a call out in a more timely fashion Another picking of samplings, only this time of pears will happen Oct 13th.
If you can make it contact Joanie, emails below.
Heres a cut and paste of part of the announcement and contact information. Hope it works. This information is not posted under the events on the HOS website.

Excellent. Thanks for posting this James.
I think it is pears tomorrow. And in case it isn't obvious to people, volunteering to pick is a great opportunity to taste a bunch of pears you otherwise would never get a chance to. Many of them wouldn't keep until the event, but may be a few to sample while out in the field.
