Hi, this is Robert Litt, owner of Urban Farm Store. We are doing our annual cider pressing again this year October 12/13 at our store (2100 SE Belmont Portland). We have about 2500 lbs of Newtown Pippins for the event! I'd like to raise some money for HOS with this and thought members would make great volunteers. If interested, please contact me at robert@urbanfarmstore.com ASAP. Thanks!
When? Saturday and Sunday October 12/13 from about 10AM-6PM Saturday and 11AM-5PM Sunday
What? Our 3rd annual charity cider pressing! We will be using a quality electric and hand-cranked press and will have over 2000 lbs of Newtown Pippins freshly harvested in Hood River on hand. We also encourage you to bring your own apples, either from home or your neighborhood. We will provide the plastic jugs and lids. All are welcome
Where? Urban Farm Store (rain or shine) in our parking lot. There will be a tent if it's raining. Our address is 2100 SE Belmont St Portland, Oregon 97239
How Much? Who Benefits? We ask a voluntary donation of $10 per gallon (your apples or ours). This money will go primarily to the Home Orchard Society, with a portion going to the family of Pete Porath (a recently departed employee of the store). A small portion goes to pay for equipment, supplies and staffing. Volunteers will get a free gallon of cider and a warm, fuzzy feeling!
Anything Else? Volunteers are asked to write Robert at robert@urbanfarmstore.com with your availability. He will let you know when your shift will be by Wednesday. We request shifts be at least 2 hours and may involve instructing guests on press usage, cleanup, and answering apple questions.
