Will an ultra dwarf apple tree grow successfully in one of those 1/2 whiskey or wine barrels? I'd like to make a moveable orchard. Thanks.

I've seen apples on M-27 rootstock successfully grown in 1/2 barrels. A stake was used beside the trunk for additional support.

The short andwwer is yes. The long answer is do not graft or select a low vigor variety for ulta– min– or super dwarf rootstock (I wish the rootstock pelople would settle on a name). You could also use an M.9 rootstock.
Yes for support and of course irrigation.
If you live in cold environment, suggest B.9 or P sereis rootstocks for cold hardiness.
