I grafted cinnamon spice scion to dwarf rootstock at HOS class this spring, 2006. Trees look great!
I am going to be moving this fall. I am proud of my trees and would like to know if I would be able to move the trees successfully? Ideally, I would like to dig them up now and place in containers. I could possibly wait until end of September. The trees are in full leaf, no hint of dormancy.
What are my chances of success? Any tips, hints, etc?
Carol, congratulations... I was there too
That's a tough one; would the new occupants be willing to let you remove them in December? You might have to build a sturdy little fence to protect them from kids, dogs, mowers... I've got a newly grafted apple tree too, it's still pretty small. I'm sure I could remove it today, if I had to. I'd just dig as far out as I thought I could handle the root-ball; the soil generally falls away if not connected. Have a very large pot ready, keep it out of direct sun for a few days and water it good... Whatever happens, I'd bet it would merely stop it progression of growth for this year, and it would take off again next Spring!
