Have any of you had sunburned apples this year? I think it happened early, like May or June. They don't seem to affect the health of the apple too much. They're very thin markings, and they don't rot. I imagine the apples wouldn't store as long as others. It seemed to happen the worst on ziploc bag covered apples. I had some on footies, and some on the micropore plastic bread bags that Jafar and I bought a few years back. Check out the picture.

We had some sunburn on our apples this year, Baldwin is one of the varieties that I can remember seeing a number of sunburned apples. These were on 3rd leaf trees so these apples were pretty exposed. However, of the 8 other varieties we have in the same area the sun damage was minimal. I don't think the sunburned apples will last in storage as long as more perfect apples, but the burned area seems to be really dried out and not as susceptible to rot as say scab that ends up cracking the skin of the fruit.
