I've got 3 emails in the last couple days from people asking where they can find black currant bushes. It would have to be a mail order source as the requests are from all around the country.

Any recommendations on where to get them?

I think both Raintree and Burnt Ridge Nursery have them. In my opinion they are both quality vendors.

They are widely available, almost surely in their local nurseries unless they live in Arizona or Southern Florida. They are common in Northern, moist areas.

These fruits are so very easy to root from a cutting, it is strange to go to a retail nursry and pay 12 dollars or more.
I have a couple varieties,
Ben Mor
Baldwin Hilltop

Ben Mor is fairly mild and can be eaten fresh
Baldwin Hilltop is strong, like a 'Cider' apple and is for jam
Also have a plant of Broadtorp, which is for fresh eating

There used to be a large Ribes planting in Puyallup WA, but WSU took it out.

This is an outstanding fruit crop for cool region one climates. They do not demand a lot of heat, "in fact they do not like it". Being shallow rooted, they are not drought tolerant, and have much the same cultural requirements as Raspberries, ie well drained but moist soils.
I would suspect that Coastal Washington and Oregon would be about perfect for them.
The fruit is very nutrient rich.
