Besides time and effort, what is really stopping me from gathering tons of native tree seeds and cuttings to make a small scale nursery. I know there is some state paperwork if I want to sell the seedlings, but not if I want to plant them on my land, right? I already propagate all my other stuff from seed, I have soil mix, and supplies aren't hard to come by. I feel like I am not considering something that would make increasing my tree propagation an ill advised idea. Is there anything I am missing?

Planting them in June, July, August or September will ensure that many will die of thirst unless you water them heavily.

Yes—there’s not much stopping you from starting a small native plant nursery to grow your own plants. Just be careful, Collect seeds legally and ethically. Use clean containers, tools, and soil mix—don’t reuse soil unless you’ve sterilized it.
