I've noticed that I've needed to extra prune some of my trees especially on the triploid branches. Suntan, Jonagold and one other grew so fast that the trees are out of balance. Some of the branches were growing out to the street. Others looked like they were going to break under the weight of the apples. Sometimes it's harder to see the shape of the tree when all of the leaves are on there.
Next year, and perhaps for many years in a row, I'm going to have to check on these varieties to make sure they haven't grown much more than the other branches, imbalancing the tree. One of them just grew in such a hyper way that it's going to clog the airflow and attract diseases.
Nice to have a use for the extra branches in biochar.

I thought it generally accepted that triploids tend to be very vigorous and figured you'd treat them like other relatively vigorous varieties when grafting.
Yes, sometimes I make posts to alert others about ideas. Sometimes I may be trying to permanently etch into my memory that I need to watch something a little more carefully.
