We're gathering scions at the National Clonal Germplasm Repository in Corvallis on Tuesday. We could use more volunteers as we're, at this point, not expecting a full complement of help to collect.
We will be collecting pear, asian pear, quince, maybe some medlar, for the Propagation Fair. I don't have a/the list.
We'll start at 9:00, an hour earlier than is usual, to also collect for the repository. Last year during the government shutdown we helped collect scion wood to fulfill orders that came in before the shutdown and subsequent employee furlough (employees of the repository were also volunteering their time on that outing).
We should be finished by 2:00.
We will be assisting the under funded facility, trying to accommodate what I suppose to be an exceptionally large drawing of scion orders, the result of that shut down during the peak of last scion cutting season. We want to do this in gratitude of the generosity the repository staff have shown us over decades of time; allowing us the access to the pear collection for the Propagation Fair and the fall All About Fruit Show. Seems only right we help out when we can.
So, if anyone has time and inclination on Tuesday and is in the area or can make it to Corvallis, the help would be much appreciated.
The trip to the repository is instructional in itself.
