First fruit...., Wilson cultivar, dropped the biggest fruit of the total single digit cropping. Wikipedia quotes American folksong "pickin' up paw paws, puttin' 'em in your pocket" referencing the picking up of fallen ripe fruit... Comparable sized tree bound "Mango"var. in close proximity, seems a bit more yielding to touch. Maybe earlier?
Another internet source suggested peach like softness. I don't pinch peaches, I smell them to determine ripeness but this may have to be a different case,
My thought is that neither are yet ripe, do they commonly drop here when ripe?

I'm located in NE Portland, Culley Neighborhood

Given a greedy nature (for tasty fruit within parameters) and the limited amount of fruit, I'd like to not waste any. I may be predisposed to hold off too long for the optimal ripening such that I miss it.
Seeking guidance of others with more experience.
My copy of Pome News with the article on which fruits continue to ripen off the tree is now in the limbo of my stuff, not to be found.

I believe they are getting ripe soon, but wonder about the window of opportunity, do they become very soft? Tasted a little bit at an All About Fruit Show I think 4 or five years ago. I think I remember pretty soft in one case
It would be exciting to be able to share a taste with some good friends who'll be in town late next week for my partners 60th B-day.
