Hey guys, does anyone have any great plants for attracting ladybugs? ive been reading about tansy and possibly yarrow if any one has had any experience, although ive heard they are quite invasive.
Some of my apple trees are situated in the ground with a nice big circle of soil around with a ladybug house and are currently awaiting some plants to attract them!
I have some fruit and veg pesticide, but id rather use a method friendly to everything other than unwanted pests!
Any comments or experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys :)

This link says that earwigs feed on aphids.

This link tells you how to make an earwig condo. I think Ted Swensen (Home Orchard Society Presidente') also reccomends an upturned clay flower pot hanging in the tree with newspaper stuffed in the bottom so as to provide the 'condo' aspect! They come out at night and feast on aphids and things. Might be worth a try.

One effective method I have developed for attracting earwigs is to grow artichokes. Unintentionally of course, but maybe that's why, despite hawthorns and apples, we don't really have aphids.

Hey guys, thanks for the info! :)
Earwigs? They are one of those bugs that frighten the living hell out of me! Its one of those irrational fears like with big spiders! I think its how fast they move, and those weird claw things on the back of them!
But the links and experience are noted and very much so appreciated none the less !
Ive ordered some Dill seeds, a herb which is said to promote the presence of ladybirds but have not heard of any success stories on forums. Ive also heard that garlic, or garlic chives prevents aphids, and so am on my way out today hopefully to buy some seeds :)

first time I'd heard about garlic chives controlling aphids. I have tons of garlic chives in my garden which I'd be happy to share if someone wants to come to Rainier and dig them up! Ray
