Sour pie cherries are much less attacked by worms and birds. They get many fewer diseases. It is a naturally semi-dwarfing tree, so it is easier to net or spray compost tea. The cherries have more flavor, vitamins and antioxidants, and they're great for canning, freezing, pies, or crisp. I grow them organically and they have remarkably few problems. The tree(montmorency) prunes itself of branches that cross or become too crowded. Did I mention that I really like pie/sour cherries?
