I would like to grow some apples as oblique cordons. I am at 1500 ft (Chehalem Mountain) with lots of sun (or as much sun as we get, PNW zone 8), on a slope. Any ideas for good varieties for this method? Other types of fruit trees? Thank you.

Ashmead's Kernel works quite well as an oblique cordon, and being an old English variety is likely to be quite well-suited to the PNW. We have also done Braeburn this way too.

Thank you for that. I believe I will try Ashmead's Kernel, although I just dug my dwarf AK up as the gophers had chewed the roots down. It's now replanted in a cage. Sigh. posting.php?mode=reply&f=1&t=4465# :twisted
