I'm picking up my apple trees mid-march. Nick's digging them the day I pick them up. I'm going to put them in my garden spot because the new orchard area is an old pasture...and the soil is not worked up. It's too early even to dig the holes. I won't be able to work it until June. Should I just wait and transplant the trees in the fall? Pat Lundsteen

If you plant them in June, you will need to get consistent water to them.

Fall is a better time to plant hardy fruit trees than June.
