I'm from North Central Arkansas, retired and very interested in producing as much of our produce as possible. Have years of experience in greenhous production, flowering./bedding plants and many years experience in vegetable gardens (still a lot to learn). Have opened the box (Pandora's) on dwarf apples and plums .
I would appreciate it if someone would suggest which rootstock would be of value to me here in Searcy County, Ar., Interested in heirloom scions also. Maybe late for this year, but if that's so I have months to prepare the ground and study this most interesting subject. Thank you
Best regards,
There are many rootstocks for many kinds of fruit. I think you need to decide what you want to grow. Do you want to climb ladders? Apples will fall and at my house, theyre still good to eat. I like most fruit trees to grow to about 15 feet, because then they're anchored well, give a lot of fruit, and don't dry up quickly in a drought. I don't mind ladders and I even have a long pole with a fork on it for cherries and plums, but I know not everyone wants to do that. Arkansas should be a good area with enough chill for most temperate fruits but enough heat to grow things like pomegranates, pecans, and pistachios that are tough here. You've got a million options. What kind of fruit do you like to eat?
