I got a Passiflora incarnata from One Green world. Divided it and stuck the unwanted part in an unlikely spot, ignored it, and - of course - the 2nd year it exploded while the tended one which I built a trellis for withered.
LOTS of beautiful flowers, for several months, that smell divine (though I have to get my nose right up to them), and a pretty vine. My daughter and I hand-pollinated like the dickens. But we only got 3 fruit, and none got ripe.
Do they get ripe in Portland, or Zone 7-8? If you grow them, to you get few or a lot? Do you hand pollinate?
I have its cousin, the blue passion vine, caerulia, and it's mainly grown for flowers. I bought a maypop one year from one green world, planted it in the fall, and it died, so I don't know. I would think it would ripen, especially now with our greater heat units. You would need to have it in absolute full sun. It's from the South where they get a LOT more heat units. I have heard it called invasive. Just a warning. Blue passionflower has also been called invasive, but I have had no such problems. I just cut it back.

I would think in Portland they just need full sun. I've attempted them once here on Ohio, zone 6b but they never came back after winter. But that's Ohio. Noted fruit author Lee Reich grows them successfully in New York, zone 5, but says that protection from winter wind is necessary.
