Hello All,
My name is Dave Griffin and I am a private stone fruit breeder in central MN, breeding peaches for hardiness and for growing in cold climates. I am asking for your assistance in finding a peach cultivar 'Compac-Redhaven'. All my efforts to find it in the established repositories, breeding programs, and commercial nurseries have been unsuccessful. This cultivar is a compact version of Redhaven with short internodes, a 20-30% shorter than standard height, and a spreading tree form with wide crotch angles - in other words, an 8' tall peach "bush". The fruit ripens early like Redhaven and is the same in size and quality but the tree is not as productive. Many trees were sold, mostly to backyard orchardists, in the 80's and 90's by Van Well Nursery, Stark Brothers, and Bountiful Ridge but all of their mother trees have been discarded. I want to use it in my breeding program for trees that can be covered more easily in the winter. If you have this peach or know of it, or if you have an unknown very shrubby peach that ripens with Redhaven, please contact me. Thanks much!
Dave
