Hi, I am searching for the Spur type Newtown Pippin mentioned in Warren Manhart's book "Apples for the 21st Century". My wife just bought me this book and I wish I had read it years previously. I really like it. Mr Manhard said it was only available from Carlton Plants and Brandt's fruit Tree Nursery. Unfortunately, both no longer grow it, and their scion source grubbed out. Fortunately, good folks from both sources are on the hunt for where it might be available from old customers who bought it in years past. But since spring is so close, I'm afraid with how hectic spring in the nursery trade is that my request will be placed on the back burner.
My hope is someone in the Home Orchard Society will have this tree in their collection and be willing to share scions. I of course will be willing to pay for your efforts...or trade you for something I have. I've got some rare and unusual trees in my collection and for instance, I had 5 trees that Nick Botner didn't have this year and we arraigned for a trade.
Mr Manhart I learned, died in 2009 at the age of 90 so I missed talking to him personally by a few years. I am a Colorado hobbyist fruit grower and work as a plant propagator at a wholesale woody plant nursery.
Thank you in advance for helping me in my quest.
