I believe I have some red or black currants. Are you an active member of the HOS?

I'm not a member, but i've gone to the scion exchange the last two years and helped out at the All about Fruit show last autumn. I am an informal Fruitnut

I have red, white, and black currants in Camas, WA if you want to come get some cuttings. Mailing isn't convenient for me these days.

The red and white I don't know the variety names of.

The black are Swedish (delicious) and Minaj Smyriou (which I don't care for) I believe.

Send me an email to my username here @msn.com and we can arrange a time.

To be more accurate, I have red and white currants in Camas and the black currants are in Vancouver. I can probably collect some cuttings before you come to Camas.

The reds and whites are intermixed and I don't know if I'll be able to distinguish them from one another. I may be able to find a picture from the summer to tell.

I also have native/wild red elderberry.

Noahpants,

I have a half dozen kinds of BL currant cuttings for you, plus a pretty flowering kind that you can form into a small tree. Just ask JohnS or Jafar to point me out at the scion exchange next month.

I don't think he's consistent with the spelling :) I thought it was plumfan too.

Hey plumfun, what varieties to you have of black currant? I think you gave me the September Black which I like better than anything else I've tasted fresh. I've heard consort is extra packed with flavor and nutrients. There are a couple in Raintree's catalogue that look interesting. I don't care for Minaj Smyriou fresh.

This spring I should have 3 empty spaces for black currants, what do you recommend that ripens relatively early to improve the odds against the spotted wing drosophila?

I will definitely be there for the Scion exchange. I'll be at the information table.
