I bought a house a year ago that has a Black Bing Cherry, Rainier Cherry, Pear, Apple tree with two types of apples, two fig trees, and some grapes. I'm looking for an Orchardist who can look at my trees and see if they need any maintenance so I have good crops this year. I live in the Felida area of Vancouver, WA. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Sounds like a good opportunity… though there’s not a lot, other than some serious replacement that could be done right now. I’d wait to see how they perform this year, then put the word out for some help pruning, training, grafting or replacing the following winter/spring.
How old do you suspect they are? …If you’ve no clue, what’s their trunk diameter – that’s “a line segment passing through the center†(had to make sure of that) – before they begin to branch? And what’s the spread on those fig trees? Maybe 6, 10 or 20 feet across? …it’s got me wiggly! Keep me posted " title="Wink" />
The house was built in 2001 and I think that the fruit trees were planted shortly after that time. So at the end of the fruit season is when one would prune the trees, correct? Are there some Orchardist's that would make a house call to Vancouver, WA?
Do I need to do anything to prevent worms in my cherries? Last year they were worm-free and I'd like to make sure they're worm-free this year as well.
The spread on the fig trees are around 10'.-13"....The larger tree producers a smaller light green fig; the shorter tree produces relatively large dark purple figs.
