I am not grafting any apples yet, but on other rootstocks, it's time. Aronia is already leafing out and so is tree quince (cydonia oblonga ) and flowering quince bush. My euro pear tree is on quince rootstock and I've made cuttings of the rootstock for years. I've had trouble in the past getting the scion to take and I think it's because I started too late. Anyone else graft onto quince rootstock? I had more luck last year than before when I grafted on to aronia and flowering quince earlier than the scion exchange, so I'm doing it this year as well.

I made 4 whip & tongue grafts over a week ago… A friend had one of her apple trees knocked over by a neighbor backing out of their driveway! I suggested she leave some of the root-suckers, she did, and I grafted 4 “Wolf River†apple scions …assuming said neighbors can back over 3 and leave one!
Gotta warm up for the classes and the big show!
