Lawns and gardens are our home's connection with nature. Trees, shrubs, flowers, grass—these bring natural beauty to our outdoor areas, and much more. They provide shade, fragrances, visual delights, places for retreat and relaxation, and opportunities for recreation. Of course, in most regions, lawns and gardens don't just happen.
Roads enable transportation and broaden communities. They allow us to work in one place and sleep in another. Roads allow the unwashed masses to attend Home Orchard Society events. Without roads our individual worlds would be much smaller. Roads require planning and maintainance.
I’ve found that votes and voting have a direct effect on elections. Campaigns, ballots, candidates and politicians augment the system – their cumulative effect guiding a vast array of issues both foreign and domestic. They provide the leadership, policy initiatives, back-room deals and coalitions necessary for governance. Of course, in most regions, fair elections and honest politicians don’t just happen.
I have found that wisdom and philosophical thinking confuse me. Long words, eloquent people, and multiple syllables make my confusion more evident. I am a simple minded person. For me, combining compost, manure, soil and peat moss for a perfect garden blend is almost impossible. Therefore, understanding long sentences filled with philosophical thinking, long words, superlatives, and wise thoughts is almost as impossible for me as growing an apple tree that has apples. In other words, I have no clue what this thread is about, but I am enjoying it.
Sharp knives and grafting tape have brought many of us closer to growing our favorite trees. The mail services and FedEx surely bring rustic beauty [scions] to the grafting bench. Of course, in most households, these things just don't happen all by themselves. They must be planned for and executed in a timely manner.
Tip: hold the grafting knife and scion close to your chest to limit range of motion. Otherwise, you will find your thumbs gobbling up the bandaids! Oh, and a poorly aimed hammer can hurt your thumb too!
[grafting update: Had a quince fail. The bud started growing, but then an ant, sowbug or earwig came by and ate the bud. ] " title="Crying or Very sad" />

"As with other self-incompatible fruit tree species of the Rosaceae, sweet cherry exhibits the monomorphic and monofactorial gametophytic self-incompatibility system, which controlled by the S-locus with multiple alleles."
Translation - you need to select a specific pollinator.
