At my kids' school, they had a book fair and I bought a new paperback for $4. It was called "Apples to Oregon". It tells the historical fiction account of the Lewelling family bringing the first apple and other fruit trees to Milwaukie, Oregon from Salem, Iowa along the Oregon Trail. If you happen to have kids, grandkids, nephews/nieces, etc., I found this to be a great way to explain about our great obsession to younger kids and add a little bit of history.
The authors are Deborah Hopkinson and Nancy carpenter, and it is published by Scholastic, which promotes most book fairs and book of the month clubs.
I hope you like it.
