Hello all,
We are in Corvallis and have just planted 26 fruit trees at our CoHousing Project, CoHo Ecovillage. We are quite new at this. We have 11 dwarf apples , misc pears, plums, fig, persimmon and cherry. Since the trees are small and we just had to fence for deer we were wondering about planting food crops between the trees. We are considering fall peas, greens, etc. Are there any concerns about doing this? Are there other more beneficial plants? Thanks for any advice.

I think it sounds great. It's what I do. I guess you just figure out what you like best. I grow mostly leafy greens because they're so easy and flexible to cook with. I let them grow and let some go to seed. If I have too many I eat them a lot. If I still have too many I compost them. If I only have one or two plants left, I let them completely go to seed. You can call it lazy man's vegetable gardening. I think of it as a constant flow of vegetables.
