I have a colony of bees living in my compost pile!

Can anyone identify them? They are small. At first I thought they might be Mason bees but there is a whole colony. They are very active and have dug a hole in the pile about 2 inches in diameter and deep. I would prefer not to harm them. They don't seem to be very aggressive but I have not pushed my luck by invading their space! I need to mow the lawn. Any suggestions? Thanks, Glenn

I would probably mow around them and leave the smallest part that I could so they'd be happy.

I was digging in the soil a couple of years ago and inadvertently dug up a yellow jacket nest. I got stung. It hurt.

Thanks John, that's probably what I'll do. Although I am a little concerned about their ability to survive the coming Winter? Glenn
