Hey All!
I have 2 apple trees that I'm trying to identify at my new house. I've submitted one of them to Orange Pippin but a few weeks later it isn't up on the site so I figured I'd see what HOS can come up with-
Here's what I know- Both trees are quite old. I have neighbors who have lived in their house for 30+ years and they remember the trees being mature when they moved here.
Tree 1 is sweet and the fruit held up well into January. It has an almost pear like taste (My mom says it tastes like a gala). It is very prolific with creamy colored flesh.
Tree 2 is very small- quite tart (maybe cider?) and tangy (almost acidic). It is firm with really white flesh. Very small and prolific.
Both trees ripen late in the growing season (Late October and beyond)
Here's a link to my webshots album with pictures.

Any help is appreciated!

The one apple that tastes most like a Pear to me is the "Hudson Golden Gem". If the trees are more than 50 years old, at least you have only about 200 varieties to sort as opposed to over 500 + today. Best time to ID is when the fruit is ripening and on the tree. If you know an apple zealot, that is the time to invite them over to dinner and 'oh by the way'.
Most of the old trees in Milton are pretty generic common stuff. King, Gravenstein, Winter Banana and Transparent are about 75% of what was planted here around 1910.
