For some reason my previous attempt to post this doesn't show up in the forum, so I apologize if I simply missed it.
I have 2 Red Flame grapes that have not produced and worthwhile fruit in 4 years. They are poorly sited and I'd rather not spend any more effort on them if they're not likely to get any better. So, the question is: am I rushing this? Should I reasonably expect more than a pound or two of fruit from 2 four-year-old Red Flames? They make plenty of foliage, but little fruit, maybe a half dozen poorly filled clusters in all.

I removed my Red Flame grapes a month ago -- but after at least a decade they were easily the weakest and poorest producer of my seedless grapes, while in the best of soil with full sunlight. Their berries were tiny, with thin inconsistent clusters -- and few of those. And, the berries didn’t seem to ripen consistently; some “split-ripe†with yellow-jacket action, while those at the bottom remained unripe…
A 'great grape' when pumped with whatever hormone I’m told they use on them in CA, but around here, in “The Heart of Wine Country†…well, mine are history. I’d suggest Interlaken or Himrod; green grapes and less prone to bird damage. Or, Canadice; consistent, thicker skinned and a bit later ripening, a winning combination, for me …but they all need sun…
But before you dig… I’d wait and see if Lon Rombough [ http://www.bunchgrapes.com/ ] checks in, our resident grape guru
