Hello,
I did some grape grafts a couple of weeks ago (Pinot Noir 115 on 101-14) and I also left some of the PN 115 as sticks (future own-rooted vine) with 4-5 buds. I put rooting hormone on everything. The vines are sitting in a tub with alder saw dust to keep them damp. The graft union is an omega and I put parafilm around the graft.
What I am seeing is that the own-rooted sticks are developing a callus and they have broken bud and have about an inch of growth. The grafted vines are still dormant and don't have any signs of trying to wake up at this point. The rootstock has started to callus on the bottom. Is this normal or have the grafts failed?
I made about 20 grafted vines and they are all acting similarly.
Thanks!
Chris
PS - I hope this post doesn't go through a moderating process like the last forum!! I lost about 3-4 posts in the ether that way..
