In 2006 we bought our house between Molalla and Silverton. On it are 7 mature Granny Smith apple trees. I've been told and have seen that they really don't ripen until January or late December. I have no use for 7 trees and that many apples.
Rather than cut all but one or two down and replace them with other varieties I thought there might be a better way to deal with all of the apples.
Is there a market locally for them?
Would someone want to tend them and split the monies?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated, I just hate cutting down good mature trees......they are maybe 25 to 30 years old......8" +/- diameter trunks....
Thanks,
J Bee
That’s tricky… Yes, Granny Smith’s are late, and at your elevation likely later!
It doesn’t sound like you want ‘that many apples.’ How about ‘other’ apples? Those trees could be Top-worked, or grafted over to other varieties. Would you have a use/need for 7 trees of various apples..?
I hope someone comes forward to work with you … but I wouldn’t hold my breath
