I am new here. I have an orchard and would like to graft the apple Hudson's Golden Gem. Could somebody send graftwood to me in Belgium, Europe. I can send you one or more varieties of excellent local Belgian, German or British apples. I am willing to pay postage. Please be kind, cuttings of this variety are impossible to find in Europe. And I read so many good things about this apple: the biggest russet, rich and aromatic, very good to best quality etc etc.
Hello Ludo;
Is anyone familiar with sending scions out of the country?
...An old friend had described smuggling potatoes (in a suitcase stuffed in the tips of shoes with dirty socks jammed behind) past German Customs (he made it, and grows them still). And I’ve heard of some interesting adventures with scions… But when I last mailed a package to relatives in Sweden I was asked a litany of questions; is it radioactive – is it explosive – is it alive..? I’d hate to end up in Guantanamo
Seems we always have a healthy batch of Hudson’s Golden Gems at the scion exchange; and they’re one of my favorite apples. But with our ramped-up security and the usual ‘state’ quarantines, what is the legality of filling Ludo's request? …and I sometimes worry that just ‘asking’ focuses undo attention…
I can't speak to the legal requirements, but here's a direct quote from our Arboretum page: "We supply a great deal of the cuttings and scion wood each spring for the annual HOS Scion Exchange, and have traded scions with fruit enthusiasts as far away as Holland!"
So, I would suggest the the person to contact is Karen Tillou, at arboretum@homeorchardsociety.org -- and she's likely to have access to scions of almost anything!
Hope this is helpful.

You will need to consult your department or ministry of Agriculture, plant import division. Tell them you are trying to import "malus".
At best you will have to obtain an import permit, and then send it to the supplier who will also have to provide a Phytosanitary certificate, and post both of them on the package along with listing the box contents. You may have to pick it up at an airport that has a customs office that can inspect agriculture.
At worst your country may prohibit apple propagating material unless it has been screened and treated for viruses. This can be a three year process, and can cost thousands of dollars if you have to have it done privately.
My suggestion is to try to find it domestically first.
