Thanks Ted and Viron among others for help at the Scion show. It was great as usual. I was persuaded to get the grafting rubber bands for grafting in the rain. Problem is, Teufel's closed down and I can't find them. Where does one buy grafting rubber bands? With the grafting tape, does it stick and therefore not stick in the rain?
I live in Portland so the nearer to Portland, the better it would be.
Thanks,
John S

You're welcome John
So it seems we're all in need of the same thing! I noticed there were no longer any large, 8 inch by 3/8's inch grafting bands at the Scion Exchange ... and I was down to my last 50! I had my graft-wrapper use the smaller bands when possible, and ended up with only a dozen big ones left -- the only size I'd buy.
Apparently we're having trouble with Teufels (I always have), so I've bypassed them. Online I found one source: http://search.stores.ebay.com/Sunshine- ... 96QQsofpZ0 That's (only) a half pound for $12.99; but they're shipping by USPS at only $3 (a good deal).
Karen Tillou, our HOS Arboretum Manager had suggested "OBC" {Oregon Bag Company} in Canby as her source. Unable to locate their website, the Canby chamber of commerce gave me their phone # 503 266 2021. OBC sells a one pound minimum (an eight lifetimes supply) for (only) $11.97, though their UPS shipping minimum sounds around $8.00.
Anyway, here's the OBCNW link: http://www.obcnw.com/b2b/shop.php?prod_ ... Strips%208 I like their site and will look it over more later. They're sending me a catalog with my order of one pound of the above (their largest) "Budding bands." They're obviously local for us Oregonians, and I'll soon be set for another 4 or 5 years - just handing them out by the handful! Do note: they don't guarantee the longevity of these bands... So use them fast " title="Laughing" />

I received (via UPS Delivery) one pound of 8" X 3/8" X .020 Budding Strips from "OBC Northwest, Inc." Nursery & Greenhouse Supplies.
The cost of these bands were $11.97 (per pound). The UPS shipping was $11.42! OBC had included two catalogs, I called them to verify the total (received yesterday by letter), and asked why they loaded in two catalogs (about equal weight to the bands)? They said they would check and get back to me ... 3 days later, nothing.
The bands look good, but if you order any, I'd insist they use the USPS, and specify no catalogs with your shipment. Guess it's just one of several prices we pay for the sake of the Society...
