graft cherry tree

We will soon receive scionwood from a special family pie cherry tree. I would like to graft it onto a dwarf rootstock or have someone do this. (I've never done any grafting.) Will waiting for the March 5 event be too late? I'd like to find someone who has the correct, disease-free rootstock available and either pay them to do the grafting, or learn how myself. Any suggestions? We're in the outer SE Portland area. Thanks.

Your scion should be fine if you wrap it in plastic with a bit of damp paper towel and keep it in the frig, provided it isn't pushing already.
I'm not sure what kind of root we'll have to graft it onto. The only good dwarf cherry stock I know of, is Gesela and I don't think we've found a scource for ungrafted rootstocks yet.
