I have some free sea berry plants for someone. They make a great thorny hedge, with beautiful orange berries in the fall. They are very strongly flavored. If salmonberry is your favorite fruit you probably won't like them. I have two plants. I can't guarantee that one is female and one is male, but if they're not, in a year, I'll give you whatever you need. They do sucker, which makes them a great hedge.

I live on the west side of Portland metro. You would have to pick them up.

Hey John, I'm thinking about planting a sea berry hedge along my side yard, but I'm not sure if the deer will get them or not. I'm assuming that with all their thorns, they'd repel the deer. Do you have any advice or experience on this?

I would think that they'd be fine. The berries are small and most deer don't know about antioxidants. :)

I think I'll try planting a few of them next year and see how they do. I hope the thorns are enough to keep the deer away. I planted 2 cherry trees this year in an area that isn't fenced in and they got nibbled on by the deer pretty badly. I had to put chicken wire up around them. If they do know about antioxidants, I'm screwed...
