Hi,
This might just be a stupid newbie question, but here it goes. Is it possible to use Flowering Quince (Chaenomeles speciosa) as a pear rootstock? I know that Quince (Cydonia oblonga) is often used as rootstock for pears and even apples. I realize that flowering quinces and quinces are in a separate genera, but I just thought I would ask.
Has anyone ever tried this?
Josh

I have not yet tried it for pears. It should work for Seckel or other small pears. It grows as a bush. I'm not sure how long lived each stem is. I know with aronia rootstock, which also works for crabapples, shipova and mountain ash, it only lives for about 15 years. Another thing to consider.
