Hi.
I'm not an expert gardener, not much of a green thumb.
I've got a 3 year old fig tree, the figs are hard as a rock and not ripening.
Yes, I water the tree. I don't use chemicals or sprays and I have lovely Willamette Valley soil in Mcminnville.
What am I doing wrong? The first year I got a couple of juicy figs, but this year and last, rock hard things. They should be ripe by now one would think. I apologize, I cannot recall the variety. Like I said, not an expert. ..
Thanks for any guidance!!
Welcome to the HOS forum Raven Moon,
My figs aren't ripe. Most won't be yet.
3 years old is too early to worry about ripening.
Fruit trees gradually develop the ability to flower and then grow fruit.
Figs typically have either a summer crop or fall crop. Mine has a summer crop and it is still not ready.
Probably within a month, but they're still green and hard.
Do you know what variety it is? We could compare with others with the same variety,
But it is still a young fig tree to produce much.

My figs haven't started to ripen yet either. I used to keep a diary. In 2014, the first figs of the year for me were July 20th. Those were Lattarula, with Desert King following close behind. John's description is really good, with all of the right questions, although I have had a few ripe figs on 3 year old trees and you already had some last year. So I would hold on to some hope, you might get some yet.
