Decades ago I moved some apple saplings into an ordered orchard pattern, rows and such.... I sprayed and took care of them for years and now one is producing wonderful mid sized fruit. But I was wondering if they had a name... The predominant first impression are the stripey bright red spots. The skin is yellowish but the stripes/spots smear it into an orange tone, revealing the yellow only at the stem and blossom. They make great apple sauce and I plan a cider press this year.

They look like ‘old fashioned’ Gravensteins to me… Early to mid-season ripening; short stems that actually ‘push’ themselves off the tree, thus they fall easily. They’ll mellow fast, but the less ripe apples should have the characteristic ‘sweet-tart’ flavor Grav’s are known for ~
